The week of the 4th was HOT it consecutively hit the 100's for quite a few days in a row with a promise with a cooler weekend. Well when we got to Pilot Knob we were all miserable HOT we trudged through and set up our tent and campsite (it really helped our entire site was in the shade). While Harper wasn't actually helping, we noticed she too was not used to the heat (notice her red cheeks below) so we set up her pool to cool her down. She sat in there and played for close to an hour all the while Gracie was inching in on the small pool to try and get her whole body into the pool to cool down as well.

A little while later Ty's brother and our NEW sister-in-law joined us for the weekend.

Did you know atop the Pilot Knob tower it is the 2nd highest point of elevation in Iowa? We had to go see the view!
All of us started trudging up the stairs with Gracie a few steps in front of us. Right as we get to the top Gracie jumps up because she wants to see the view apparently? I reach out and am just able to grab her hind legs right before she would have gone over the side of the tower... Needless to say we were all a little frazzled and we quickly took "family" photos and got back down to safe ground...

The whole week we ate way too much food (mostly Harper). We found that she would sit quite still for quite awhile if we gave her her own piece of watermelon. So after a HUGE lunch and two slices of watermelon later this is how we found her during her nap:
On Saturday, Ty's parents and brother's family joined us for a night of camping. We again ate too much, played card games, lit sparklers, and sat around talking. The campsite was great. We had two spots but they were so spread out that we felt like we were the only campers (might have had something to do with the heat):

Sunday morning was time to pack up and head home. Harper love hanging out with her cousins, Stella and Olivia and it's so fun to see the two babies so happy to see each other.

Overall this too was a great campsite. We felt isolated (which was great given the amount of babies we had on the trip) and the campsite was roomy. It was also well-shaded so that our tent or camping area was never in the sun--making it a lot cooler all day. I too would give this 4 out of 5 stars. The only downfall was the amount of flesh-eating bugs (Sydney got it the worst!) and the not-so-modern bathroom right across from our site. All in all it was a great State Park and we all said we'll be back!
